Digital Stories

Digital Stories are short multi-media videos created by community members using text, voice-over, pictures, and music. Through digital storytelling, local youth, adults, and organization leaders are given the opportunity to share their perspectives or stories about domestic violence with the rest of the community. Digital Stories have proven to be invaluable educational and outreach tools in our work to raise awareness and start conversations about the issue. For more information about producing digital stories or to order copies of digital stories on DVD, please contact Close to Home at 617.929.5151.

Digital storytelling is based on the premise that people are expert storytellers of their own experiences, and that every individual has a story worthy of sharing with others. Digital storytelling began in resistance to modern methods of mass media in which outsiders often come into communities and tell people’s stories for them, in exploitive or inaccurate ways. To date, digital storytelling has been used in many different areas of the United States and across the globe on diverse issues such as sexual violence prevention, domestic violence prevention, community development, youth violence, racism, and environmental justice.
